Participation
In 2009, an estimated 196,500 Indigenous people were in the labour force. This represented an Indigenous labour force participation rate of 56%.
Employment
There were an estimated 161,200 Indigenous people employed in 2009, which was 46% of the Indigenous population.
Unemployment
In 2009, the unemployment rate for the Indigenous population was 18%, with an estimated 35,400 unemployed.
Comparisons with Non-Indigenous Estimates
There are a number of considerations when making comparisons between the labour force characteristics of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

Although the estimates available from other ABS collections are based on the same underlying concepts as the LFS, there are important differences which affect the comparability of data
