MAIZE
Total maize production in Australia in 2009 was 255 thousand tonnes covering an area of 49 thousand hectares. The historical high for production was in 2002 at 454 thousand tonnes, but for area it was in 1924 at 172 thousand hectares. Since 1924 the area under cultivation for maize has steadily declined while production increased notably from the early 1980s.
