OVERVIEW

In 2010-11, the estimate of total expenditure funded by the three tiers of government was $6,650.2m for cultural activities. This comprised:

  • $2,271.6m (34% of total) from the Australian Government
  • $3,118.8m (47%) from state and territory governments
  • $1,259.9m (19%) from local government.

Total expenditure funded by government for cultural activities was relatively consistent between 2010-11 and 2009-10 with an increase of less than 1% ($21.5m). This increase was less than the increase of 4% between 2008-09 and 2009-10. (Table 1)
