Wheat grain committed
  • Wheat grain export commitments at the end of September were 3.2 million tonnes, a decrease of 879 thousand tonnes (or 22%) since August 2012 and were down by 673 thousand tonnes (17%) from September 2011.
  • Wheat grain export commitments in September 2012 fell in all states except South Australia where they were up by 8 thousand tonnes (2%) to 403 thousand tonnes.
  • Western Australia recorded a reduction in wheat grain commitments since August 2012, down by 443 thousand tonnes (or 17%). However, overall commitments remained high at 2.2 million tonnes which accounted for 68% of Australia's wheat grain commitments.
  • Contributing factors for lower wheat grain commitments include quality concerns, weather forecasts and trends in the global market. Wheat grain commitments have traditionally been low prior to the new harvest and follow a similar pattern as in the previous year.
