AGE AND SEX

The proportion of male defendants finalised varied between court levels: 89% of defendants in the Higher Courts were male, compared with 69% in the Magistrates' Courts and 75% in the Children's Courts.

In terms of person defendants, for All Courts the 40-44 years age group was the highest represented age cohort (14%), and this was consistent for both males and females. One half (50%) of all defendants were aged between 25 and 44 years. In the Children's Courts, 70% of all defendants were aged over 16 years.
