OVERVIEW
This is a one-off survey on the travel behaviour of residents of the Greater Perth Region (Perth Statistical Division and Mandurah SLA). Information was collected on characteristics of trips to work for persons aged 15 years and over and trips to place of study for persons aged 5 years and over.
This survey provides information on:
- main and secondary modes of transport to work and place of study;
- constraints to use of public transport;
- factors impinging on use or public/private transport for journey to work and place of study; and
- incidence and nature of trips linked to journey to work.
The usual residents (civilian population) of private dwellings were included in the scope of the survey. Residents of special dwellings and visitors to prviate dwellings were excluded.
This survey was conducted as a supplement to the October 1994 Monthly Labour Force Survey.
PURPOSE
This survey provides information on the travel behaviour of many of the commuters within the Greater Perth Region. The results will be used to assess personal travel preferences and transport patterns which will assist government agencies in urban development and infrastructure planning. In particular, it will assist in the promotion of public transport to commuters.
SCOPE
Scope was the same as for the Labour Force Survey which includes all persons aged 15 years and over except
- members of the Australian permanent defence forces:
- certain diplomatic personnel of foriegn governments customarily excluded from the census and estimated population;
- overseas residents holidaying in Australia;
- members of non-Australian defence forces (and their dependants) stationed in Australia Coverage - the supplementary survey was conducted using a sub-set of the same sample of dwellings included in the Monthly Population Survey (MPS) for Western Australia contained within the Perth Statistical Division. Information relating to each household was obtained by personally interviewing any responsible adult who was able to answer questions on behalf of all household members
