After World War I, the number of marriages registered in Tasmania increased sharply to 1,999 in 1920. During World War II, the number of marriages registered decreased from 2,431 in 1942 to 1,868 in 1945. Post World War II, the number rose sharply to 2,650 in 1946. From the early 1960s, the number of marriages registered in Tasmania increased steadily with 2,485 in 1962 and 3,578 in 1971. Another period of growth occurred in the late seventies and early eighties with a record 3,704 marriages registered in 1984. In 2005 the number of marriages registered was 2,644.
