At 30 June 2002, there were 985 private hospital beds in Tasmania, 214 less than the number of public hospital beds. The majority of these beds, 62.3%, were located in hospitals in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region, while 26.9% were in Northern Region hospitals, and 10.8% were in hospitals in the Mersey-Lyell Region.
