Household expenditure and recorded crime - to be released on Wednesday

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will release the summary of results of the Household Expenditure Survey, Australia 1998-99 (cat. no. 6530.0) and the publication Recorded Crime Australia, 1999 (cat. no. 4510.0) on Wednesday 28 June, 2000.

Household Expenditure Survey
The Household Expenditure Survey comprehensively examines Australian household spending on goods and services. The publication covers a range of areas including housing, food, medical care, transport, recreation and clothing. Comparisons can be made between states, capital cities and income groups. The survey is carried out every five years and includes comparative data from previous surveys.
Recorded Crime
The Recorded Crime publication contains national crime statistics for a range of offences that have been recorded by police. The statistics provide indicators of the level and nature of recorded crime in Australia and a basis for measuring change over time.

National crime statistics are compiled on a victim basis and measure the number of victims for each offence category rather than the breaches of criminal law. The publication provides a breakdown of the offences by victim details (age of victim, sex of victim, and relationship of offender to victim). Type of location and use of weapon data are also provided. From 1 January 1997, outcome of police investigations statistics are also included.
