Latest New Motor Vehicle Sales Data

The trend estimate for sales of new motor vehicles increased 0.5% to 79,961 in September 2004. When compared with September 2003 (78,403) the trend estimate has shown an increase of 2.0%.

Sales of new passenger vehicles recorded a trend increase of 0.4% for September 2004. Sports utility vehicle sales increased 1.4%, continuing the increasing trend since September 2003. Sales of other new vehicles increased 0.1% in September 2004.

All states and territories, excluding the Australian Capital Territory, recorded increases in the trend estimate for sales of new motor vehicles in September 2004.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for sales of new motor vehicles rose 3.0% to 81,354 in September 2004. Passenger vehicle sales increased 3.4% to 49,852 and sales of sports utility vehicles increased 1.7% to 15,309. Sales of other new vehicles increased 2.9% to 16,193 in September 2004.
