Walkerville and Roxby Downs top South Australia's income list
People living in the inner-city area of Walkerville are among the highest income earners in South Australia, according to figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Walkerville recorded an average total income of $67,690 in 2007-08, closely followed by the northern mining centre of Roxby Downs ($66,400) .

South-west Burnside ($61,109), east Unley ($60,212) and north-east Mitcham ($59,120) round out the top five income areas in South Australia.

Around 25% of regions in South Australia recorded average total incomes above the state average ($40,488). Of these, around 70% were located within the Adelaide metropolitan area.

Apart from Roxby Downs, other areas outside of Adelaide recording slightly higher average total incomes were in the Flinders Ranges ($44,741), Whyalla ($44,699), and in the far north of the state ($43,232).

These data include income from wages and salaries, own unincorporated business, investment, and superannuation and annuities, but do not include government pensions and allowances.

Further information is available in Estimates of Personal Income for Small Areas, 2003-04 to 2007-08 (cat. no. 6524.0.55.002).
