MAY KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, the May 2009 merchandise imports were $14,712m, a decrease of $1,496m (9%) on the revised April 2009 merchandise imports of $16,208m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods imports (debits) on a balance of payments basis decreased by $801m (5%) in seasonally adjusted terms from $17,199m in April 2009 to $16,398m in May 2009. Capital goods fell $577m (14%) with capital goods n.e.s. down $302m (24%) and machinery and industrial equipment down $221m (15%), intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $464m (7%) with other merchandise goods down $132m (60%), and consumption goods fell $54m (1%). Other goods rose $294m (35%) with goods for processing up $203m.
