JUNE KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for June 2016:
  • Cattle slaughter decreased 1 percent in June 2016 when compared to May 2016 and decreased 18 percent (or 142,000 head) from June 2015.
  • Calves slaughtered increased month-on-month, up 4 percent from May 2016 but down 11 percent when compared to June 2015.
  • Sheep slaughter decreased by 20,000 head (or 3 percent) from May 2016 and by 17 percent from June 2015.
  • Lamb slaughter was down for a second month, decreasing by 18,000 head (or 1 percent) when compared to May 2016.
  • Pig meat production continued its steady monthly growth in June 2016, also increasing 4 percent from June 2015.

In this issue revisions have been made to the May 2016 original series as a result of more complete and accurate information obtained from South Australia and Western Australia respondents.
