APRIL KEY POINTS

LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED

  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings increased for the tenth consecutive month to 1.1 million, and was 7.0% higher than the same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings fell for the sixth consecutive month, to 1.7 million, and was 3.1% lower than the same time last year.

MEAT PRODUCTION
  • The trend estimate for beef production increased for the third consecutive month, to 178,000 tonnes, with little change compared to same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production was little changed from the previous month, at 23,000 tonnes, and up 15% on the same time last year.

This publication presents statistics on livestock slaughterings and meat production. These statistics are based on a monthly collection from abattoirs and other major slaughtering establishments.
