Describes the indexes for summarising the socio-economic profile of population by areas and illustrates their possible uses. Indexes are derived from the 2006 Census to rank postcodes, Local Government Areas, Statistical Local Areas by summarising a wide range of socio-economic characteristics. Examples of variables used are income, education, occupation and housing conditions.
