MAY KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, May 2015 imports on an international merchandise trade basis were $20,933m, a decrease of $1,071m (5%) on the revised April 2015 merchandise imports of $22,004m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $921m (4%) between April and May 2015.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits fell $1,077m (5%) between April and May 2015 to $22,400m.
  • Capital goods fell $1,025m (17%), driven by machinery and industrial equipment, down $1,367m (46%).
  • Intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $113m (1%), driven by fuels and lubricants, down $165m (6%).
  • Consumption goods fell $28m, driven by consumption goods n.e.s., down $92m (4%).
  • Partly offsetting these falls was the non-monetary gold component, up $89m (31%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions on an international merchandise trade basis have been applied back to July 2013.
  • The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
