MAY KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, May 2013 imports on an international merchandise trade basis were $20,106m, an increase of $1,483m (8%) on the revised April 2013 merchandise imports of $18,623m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $1,120m (6%) between April and May 2013.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits rose $403m (2%) between April and May 2013 to $20,437m. Consumption goods rose $357m (7%) with consumption goods n.e.s., up $209m (12%). Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $351m (4%). Capital goods fell $290m (5%) and non–monetary gold fell $15m (3%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
  • The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
