OCTOBER KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings fell for the sixth consecutive month, to 585,900. This was the lowest figure recorded since November 1996.
  • The trend estimate for beef production fell for the sixth consecutive month, to 157,800 tonnes. This was the lowest figure recorded since January 2002.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings fell for the fifth consecutive month, to 957,300. This was the lowest figure recorded since January 2005.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production fell for the fifth consecutive month, to 19,800 tonnes. This was the lowest figure recorded since December 2004.
