FEBRUARY KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings rose for the eighth consecutive month, to 724,000. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
  • The trend estimate for beef production rose for the ninth consecutive month, to 193,000 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings declined to 1.2 million.
  • The trend estimate for pig slaughterings increased for the sixth consecutive month, to 453,000. This was the highest figure since November 2005.
