JANUARY KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for calf slaughterings fell for the thirteenth consecutive month, to 66,100. This was the lowest figure recorded since records began in July 1979.
  • The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings rose for the sixth consecutive month, to 1.5 million. This was the highest figure recorded since January 2002.
  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings fell for the fifth consecutive month, to 640,900.

This publication presents statistics on livestock slaughterings and meat production. These statistics are based on a monthly collection from abattoirs and other major slaughtering establishments.
