NOVEMBER KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings rose for the fifth consecutive month, to 706,000. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
  • The trend estimate for beef production rose for the sixth consecutive month, to 189,000 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings rose for the seventh consecutive month, to 1.3 million. This was the highest figure recorded since November 2002.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production rose for the seventh consecutive month, to 26,100 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since October 2002.

This publication presents statistics on livestock slaughterings and meat production. These statistics are based on a monthly collection from abattoirs and other major slaughtering establishments.
