SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during March 2012 (504,800 movements) increased 0.3% compared with February 2012 (503,400 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.1% in January 2012 and 0.2% in February 2012. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 4.3% higher than in March 2011.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2012, short-term visitor arrivals (512,000 movements) recorded an increase of 1.9% compared with February 2012 (502,400 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.6% in January 2012 and an increase of 1.0% in February 2012.
  • Original estimates: There were 544,200 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in March 2012.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during March 2012 (667,100 movements) increased 0.5% compared with February 2012 (663,500 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.5% in January 2012 and 0.6% in February 2012. The current trend estimate for departures is 6.5% higher than in March 2011.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2012, short-term resident departures (676,800 movements) increased 3.0% compared with February 2012 (657,300 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 1.8% in January 2012 and a decrease of 1.2% in February 2012.
  • Original estimates: There were 630,100 short-term resident departures from Australia during March 2012.
