AUGUST KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES
  • Trend estimates: The August 2014 trend estimate (92 681) has decreased by 0.1% when compared with July 2014.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: The August 2014 seasonally adjusted estimate (91 391) has decreased by 1.8% when compared with July 2014.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend estimates: When comparing national trend estimates for August 2014 with July 2014, sales of Passenger and Other vehicles decreased by 0.4% and 0.1% respectively. Over the same period, Sports utility vehicles increased by 0.3%.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for August 2014 with July 2014, sales of Passenger and Sports utility vehicles decreased by 1.8% and 3.7% respectively. Over the same period, sales of Other vehicles increased by 1.4%.


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend estimates: Four of the eight states and territories experienced a decrease in new motor vehicle sales when comparing August 2014 with July 2014. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage decrease (1.6%), followed by the Northern Territory (1.5%) and Western Australia (0.9%). Over the same period, the Australian Capital Territory recorded the largest percentage increase in sales of 1.0%.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: Seven of the eight states and territories experienced a decrease in new motor vehicle sales when comparing August 2014 with July 2014. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage decrease (5.9%) followed by the Northern Territory (5.6%) and Western Australia (4.6%). South Australia was the only jurisdiction to record an increase (0.8%).
