OCTOBER KEY POINTS

LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings increased for the ninth consecutive month, to 682,000, and was 2% higher than same time in the previous year.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings decreased for the fifth consecutive month, to 976,000, and was little changed from the same period last year.
  • The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings increased for the fifth consecutive month, to 1.7 million, and was down 7% compared to the same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for pig slaughterings decreased for the fourteenth consecutive month, 375,000, and was down 17% compared to the same time last year.

MEAT PRODUCTION
  • The trend estimate for beef production increased for the third consecutive month, to 183,000 tonnes, and was up 3% compared to the same period last year.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production decreased for the sixth consecutive month to 20,300 tonnes, and was down 4% compared to same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for lamb production increased for the fourth consecutive month, to 34,200 tonnes, and was down 13% on the previous year.
  • The trend estimate for pig production decreased for the thirteenth consecutive month, to 26,800 tonnes, and was down 18% on the previous year.
