NOVEMBER KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for November 2016:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 6,000 or 1% for November 2016 when compared with October 2016 but a year-on-year decrease of 115,300 head or 17%.
  • Calves slaughtered in November 2016 decreased by 1,600 or 4% month-on-month and compared to this period last year decreased by 5,200 head or 12%.
  • Sheep slaughter in November 2016 decreased marginally (down 0.8%) compared with October 2016 and was down 193,600 head or 28% year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter increased by 39,700 head or 2% for November 2016. Compared with November 2015, slaughters decreased by 33,600 head or 2% percent.
  • Pig slaughter held steady for the month of November, increasing by 525 head when compared to October 2016 and continued to increase year on year with slaughters up 15,270 head or 4% on this period last year.
