IMPACT OF THE FLOODS

Flooding began in Queensland in late December 2010, and was more extensive across Queensland and other states in January 2011. As a consequence, the number of new motor vehicle sales in Queensland decreased for January 2011 in original, seasonally adjusted, and trend terms. In February 2011, sales of new motor vehicles in Queensland showed an increase in seasonally adjusted and original terms. It is expected that the flooding events will continue to have an impact on new motor vehicle sales in a number of states over the next few months.

The collection and processing of data on new motor vehicle sales for this publication were not disrupted due to the flooding. In general, data produced for this release are of the same scope and quality as normally released by the ABS.
