AUGUST KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during August 2014 (577,400 movements) increased 0.2% compared with July 2014 (576,600 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.3% in June 2014 and 0.2% in July 2014. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 8.1% higher than in August 2013.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2014, short-term visitor arrivals (579,300 movements) increased 1.6% compared with July 2014 (570,200 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 2.7% in June 2014 and a monthly increase of 0.2% in July 2014.
  • Original estimates: There were 538,800 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in August 2014.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during August 2014 (768,500 movements) increased 0.4% compared with July 2014 (765,600 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.6% in June 2014 and 0.5% in July 2014. The current trend estimate for departures is 4.4% higher than in August 2013.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2014, short-term resident departures (767,000 movements) increased 0.3% compared with July 2014 (765,100 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.0% in June 2014 and a monthly decrease of 0.5% in July 2014.
  • Original estimates: There were 766,800 short-term resident departures from Australia in August 2014.
