SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS


FINAL (STAGE 3) COMMODITIES
  • increased by 2.0% in the September quarter 2008.
  • mainly due to price increases in building construction (+1.8%), electricity, gas and water (+7.4%) and dairy product manufacturing (+5.5%).
  • partially offset by price falls in motor vehicle and parts manufacturing (-2.4%).
  • increased by 5.6% through the year to September quarter 2008.


INTERMEDIATE (STAGE 2) COMMODITIES
  • increased by 3.7% in the September quarter 2008.
  • mainly due to price increases in coal mining (+192.4%), iron and steel manufacturing (+16.4%), basic chemical manufacturing (+17.7%) and oil and gas extraction (+7.6%).
  • partially offset by price decreases in grain, sheep and beef farming (-3.7%) and metal ore mining (-4.2%).
  • increased by 9.7% through the year to September quarter 2008.


PRELIMINARY (STAGE 1) COMMODITIES
  • increased by 5.5% in the September quarter 2008.
  • mainly due to price increases in coal mining (+192.4%), iron and steel manufacturing (+16.5%), basic chemical manufacturing (+17.5%) and oil and gas extraction (+7.6%).
  • partially offset by price decreases in grain, sheep and beef farming (-3.3%).
  • increased by 13.3% through the year to September quarter 2008.
