AUGUST KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during August 2015 (612,500 movements) did not change, compared with July 2015. This followed monthly increases of 0.2% in both June 2015 and July 2015. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 5.8% higher than in August 2014.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2015, short-term visitor arrivals (619,300 movements) increased 1.9% compared with July 2015 (607,900 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.3% in June 2015 and a monthly decrease of 0.1% in July 2015.
  • Original estimates: There were 573,800 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in August 2015.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during August 2015 (784,400 movements) increased 0.2% compared with July 2015 (782,800 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.2% in both June 2015 and July 2015. The current trend estimate for departures is 3.4% higher than in August 2014.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2015, short-term resident departures (784,400 movements) decreased 0.7% compared with July 2015 (790,300 movements). This followed monthly increases of 2.1% in June 2015 and 0.8% in July 2015.
  • Original estimates: There were 768,000 short-term resident departures from Australia in August 2015.
