ABOUT THIS ISSUE

This publication provides an early indication of trends in building and engineering construction activity. The data are estimates based on a response rate of approximately 85% of the value of both building and engineering work done during the quarter. More comprehensive and updated results will be released in Engineering Construction Activity, Australia (cat.no. 8762.0) on 3 April 2013 and in Building Activity, Australia (cat. no. 8752.0) on 17 April 2013.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

This issue contains the first release of Relative Standard Errors (RSEs) as data cubes. See the data cubes section under the downloads tab for more details.

DATA NOTES

The trend estimates should be interpreted with caution as the underlying behaviour of building activity may be affected by Government stimulus packages as well as other developments associated with global economic conditions. Trend estimates should be used with caution due to the volatility caused by large engineering projects. For more details on trend estimates, please see paragraphs 24 to 26 of the explanatory notes.
