AUGUST KEY POINTS


SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during August 2011 (491,000 movements) increased 0.8% compared with July 2011 (487,100 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.5% in June 2011 and 0.6% in July 2011. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 1.0% lower than in August 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2011, short-term visitor arrivals (500,400 movements) recorded an increase of 2.6% compared with July 2011 (487,700 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 1.8% in June 2011 and an increase of 2.2% in July 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 468,600 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in August 2011.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during August 2011 (664,900 movements) increased 0.6% compared with July 2011 (660,800 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.2% in June 2011 and 0.8% in July 2011. The current trend estimate for departures is 10.7% higher than in August 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2011, short-term resident departures (661,500 movements) increased by 0.2% compared with July 2011 (660,000 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 1.8% in June 2011 and an increase of 3.3% in July 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 648,900 short-term resident departures from Australia during August 2011.
