Copyright and intellectual property rights for the 2001 Census data and digital boundaries are retained solely by the Commonwealth of Australia and are administered by the ABS. Any use of the boundaries is subject to a standard licence agreement to be signed by parties purchasing the boundaries. The Public Sector Mapping Agencies (PSMA) have ownership of the copyright of the digital base maps used by the Census.
