How much is tourism worth to Australia? Get the answer next Tuesday

The first official estimates of the value of the tourism industry to Australia's economy will be launched next Tuesday October 17 by the Minister for Sport and Tourism, Jackie Kelly.

Australian National Accounts: Tourism Satellite Account will cover the contribution of the tourism industry to the economy as a 'satellite' account linked to the Australian System of National Accounts. It has been prepared by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) with funding from the Department of Industry, Science and Resources,

The information in the publication will show the contribution of tourism to major economic aggregates, such as GDP, as well as details on what products were purchased by tourists, which industries supplied those products, and the contribution of tourism to the value added of those industries. In addition, data on employment and visitor numbers will be presented.

The Tourism Satellite Account will provide a macro-economic framework to conduct analyses of tourism impacts on the economy and contributed to informed decision making in the sector.

WHERE: Outside terrace of the Waterfront Restaurant, Sydney Harbour Forecourt, The Rocks

WHEN: October 17, 11.30am - 1.00pm (official proceedings to begin at 12:00).
