WELCOME

Welcome to another edition of Age Matters. I hope you find the feature article on quality issues concerning cause of death statistics of interest.

With the first release of data from the 2006 Population Census imminent (27 June), the next edition of Age Matters will include an article detailing what the Census can tell us about grandparents caring for their grandchildren. Other Census releases of interest are listed in the selected ABS Releases section below.

I also write to let you know that management of ABS work on statistics to do with older people in Australia will, from 1 July, come under the umbrella of the Social Conditions Branch in the Central Office of the ABS. This changed arrangement will bring the work on ageing matters together with work on children and youth and family and community statistics about which there are many synergies. We look forward to developing our services in this field under the new arrangements.
