Call for comment on 2006 Census products

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) called today for public comment on the range of products and services it plans to produce from next year’s Census.

Details of the ABS plans can be found in the information paper 2006 Census of Population and Housing, Proposed Products and Services (cat. no. 2011.0).

ABS clients and other users of Census data are invited to use the questionnaire provided with the information paper to contribute their views on the proposals.

The information paper and questionnaire are also available on the ABS web site. The questionnaire can be filled out on-line.

Submissions are sought by 11 November 2005.

Questionnaire responses are important to confirm that the proposed products and services meet the requirements and expectations of Census data users. Users will also have the opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement to the data content of the products.

The ABS will be holding consultation sessions about the proposals with users of Census data and other interested parties during October and November. The ABS will also hold information sessions in mid-2006 so that users can preview the proposed products and services once they are finalised.

The Census, to be held on 8 August next year, is the largest statistical operation undertaken by the ABS. It provides a vast range of valuable information.

Products and services from the 2006 Census are designed to assist and encourage informed decision making, research and discussion by government, business and the community.
