Welcome to the latest edition of Environment and Energy News, the newsletter of the ABS Centre of Environment and Energy Statistics (CEES). Environment and Energy News is published twice a year, highlighting developments in environment and energy statistics.

	Energy and water efficiency beats price Australian households ranked energy star rating as important when buying white goods.
	Recent and upcoming releases ABS environment and energy publications released in the last six months or due for release in the next six months.
	Water and the Murray-Darling Basin: A Statistical Profile 2000–01 to 2005–06 A new publication draws together economic, demographic and environmental data to present a profile of this important region.
	Planning for the 2008–09 Water Account ABS will conduct an economy-wide survey of private businesses to measure water use across different industries.
	What are environmental accounts? A recently released information paper defines the types of environmental accounts produced by the ABS.
	New information paper on estimating irrigated production ABS has been developing an improved methodology for calculating the Gross Value of Irrigated Agricultural Production (GVIAP).
	Adverse seasonal conditions affect agricultural production Continuing unfavourable conditions and lack of water kept agricultural production levels down during 2007–08.
	Irrigation water use down The publication Water Use on Australian Farms 2006–07outlines the reduction in water use across different agricultural activities.
	Natural Resource Management on Australian farms Nearly two-thirds of Australian farms had improved their NRM practices in 2006–07.
	Valuing Australia's environment course This one-day course focuses on the emerging discipline of environmental accounting, and will be offered at ABS House in Canberra in May 2009.
	Land Management and Farming in Australia, 2007–08 Data on the types of adverse seasonal conditions experienced in 2007–08, and the farm management practices employed to combat them, will be released in May 2009.
	Other news Includes news about a meeting of the Australian Statistical Advisory Council, user consultation for the 2010 household survey of water use and conservation, and a snapshot of social, economic and environmental information for NSW.
