SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES

  • Trend estimates: The September 2013 trend estimate (94 362) has decreased by 43 units when compared with August 2013.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: The September 2013 seasonally adjusted estimate (94 150) has decreased by 0.1% when compared with August 2013.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend estimates: When comparing national trend estimates for September 2013 with August 2013, sales of Passenger and Other vehicles decreased by 0.2% respectively. Over the same period, Sports utility vehicles increased by 0.3%.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for September 2013 with August 2013, sales of Passenger and Sports utility vehicles decreased by 1.2% and 1.0% respectively. Over the same period, Other vehicles increased by 4.0%.


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend estimates: Four of the eight states and territories experienced a decrease for new motor vehicle sales when comparing September 2013 with August 2013. The Australian Capital Territory recorded the largest percentage decrease (0.9%), followed by Western Australia and Tasmania (0.7%) and then Queensland (0.3%). This is the tenth consecutive month of decline for Queensland and ninth consecutive month of decline for Western Australia and the ACT.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: Four of the eight states and territories experienced an increase in new motor vehicle sales when comparing September 2013 with August 2013. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage increase (17.9%) followed by Western Australia (1.0%) and South Australia (0.9%). Over the same period, sales in the Northern Territory decreased by 8.4%.
