BUILDING WORK DONE
  • The trend estimate of the value of total building work done rose 0.2% in the June 2013 quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of total building work done fell 0.2% to $20,353.0m in the June quarter, following a fall of 0.6% in the March quarter.


NEW RESIDENTIAL BUILDING WORK DONE
  • The trend estimate of the value of new residential building work done rose 0.3% in the June quarter. The value of work done on new houses fell 1.4% while new other residential building rose 3.2%.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of new residential building work done fell 0.7% to $10,284.6m. Work done on new houses fell 2.8% to $6,262.5m, while new other residential building rose 2.7% to $4,022.2m.


NON-RESIDENTIAL WORK DONE
  • The trend estimate of the value of non-residential building work done rose 0.2% in the June quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of non-residential building work done in the quarter fell 0.3%, following a fall of 0.7% in the March 2013 quarter.

TOTAL DWELLINGS
  • The trend estimate for the total number of dwelling units commenced fell 0.2% in the June 2013 quarter following a rise of 0.9% in the March quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for the total number of dwelling units commenced was essentially unchanged from March at 40,242 dwellings in the June quarter following a fall of 2.4% in the March quarter.


NEW PRIVATE SECTOR HOUSES
  • The trend estimate for new private sector house commencements rose 0.7% in the June quarter following a fall of rise of 0.8% in the March quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for new private sector house commencements rose 5.7% to 23,407 dwellings in the June quarter following a fall of 4.1% in the March quarter.


NEW PRIVATE SECTOR OTHER RESIDENTIAL BUILDING
  • The trend estimate for new private sector other residential building commencements fell 1.0% in the June quarter following a rise of 0.5% in the March quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for new private sector other residential building fell 3.7% to 15,737 dwellings in the June quarter following a fall of 1.6% in the March quarter.

This publication updates the preliminary estimates released in Construction Work Done, Australia (cat. no. 8755.0) on 28 August 2013. The data in this publication are based on a response rate of approximately 92% of the value of building work done during the quarter. The data are subject to revision when returns from the following quarter are processed. Final data for the June quarter 2013 will be released in the next release of this publication, Building Activity, Australia (cat. no. 8752.0) on 16 January 2014.

A readily printable (PDF) publication is no longer released for this issue. Headline data items are presented in HTML format. Data series in the Time Series Spreadsheets are maintained and produced to the same timetable currently in place for this release.


SIGNIFICANT REVISIONS THIS ISSUE

Compared to the estimate published in Building Activity, Australia, March quarter 2013 (cat. no. 8752.0) released on 17 July 2013:
  • the total value of work done in Australia during March quarter 2013 has been revised upwards by $217.1m or 1.2%.
  • the total value of work commenced in Australia during March quarter 2013 has been revised upwards by $1,045.9m or 6.0%. This was driven by revisions to non-residential commencements ($546.4m) and new other residential commencements ($486.0m).
  • the number of dwelling unit commencements in the March quarter 2013 has been revised upwards by 1569 dwellings or 4.5%.


DATA NOTE

Several time series spreadsheets contain 'np' (not available for publication) annotations from the September quarter 2012 onwards. This is due to confidential data being contained in these series.
