JUNE KEY POINTS


VALUE OF WORK DONE, CHAIN VOLUME MEASURES

TOTAL BUILDING
  • The trend estimate of the value of total building work done was flat for the June 2008 quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted June quarter estimate of the value of total building work done rose 0.1%, to $16,858.0m, following a rise of 1.0% in the March 2008 quarter.


NEW RESIDENTIAL
  • The trend estimate of the value of new residential building work done was flat in the latest quarter, with new houses rising 1.2% and new other residential building falling 2.9%. Alterations and additions to residential building rose 0.3%.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of new residential work done fell 0.3%, to $8,276.4m. Work done on new houses rose 0.6% to $5,946.5m, while new other residential building fell 2.5%, to $2,329.9m. Alterations and additions rose 0.5%, to $1,592.2m.


NON-RESIDENTIAL
  • The trend estimate of the value of non-residential building work done in the quarter fell 0.2% in June. This follows a rise of 0.6% in March.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of non-residential building work done in the quarter rose 0.5%, to $6,989.5m, following a rise of 1.3% in March.

The data in this publication are based on a response rate of approximately 96% of the value of building work done during the quarter. The data are subject to revision when returns from the following quarter are processed. Final data for the June quarter 2008 will be released in Building Activity, Australia (cat. no. 8752.0) on 21 January 2009.
