This feature article examines data from the 2006 Census of Population and Housing to highlight characteristics of the Western Australian population, focusing on birthplace, ancestry and religion.

Australian Demographic Statistics, Mar 2007 (cat. no. 3101.0)
Released quarterly, this publication provides estimates of total population for states, territories and Australia. It includes numbers of births, deaths, infant deaths, interstate and overseas movements.

Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia, Aug 2007 (cat. no. 3401.0)
This publication provides time series data on short-term, long-term and permanent movements. Data such as permanent movements by country of birth for major groups and selected source countries are available in Excel format.

General Social Survey: Summary Results, Australia, 2006 (cat. no. 4159.0)
The 2006 General Social Survey (GSS) provides information about the socioeconomic characteristics of Australia's adult population along with a wide range of indicators relating to social and community capital and well-being. Confidentialised unit record files (CURFs) are now available from the CURF Microdata Entry Page.

Australian Labour Market Statistics, Jul 2007 (cat. no. 6105.0)
This quarterly publication draws together data from a range of sources, mostly ABS household and business surveys, to provide an overall picture of the labour market. For example, labour force status (e.g. employment, unemployment and participation rate figures) is available by country of birth and also year of arrival in Australia. The publication also includes feature articles on various topics. The next release is expected on 16 October.

More recent data are available from Labour Force, Australia, Detailed - Electronic Delivery, Aug 2007 (cat. no. 6291.0.55.001). In SuperTABLE format, these data are released each month. The next release is expected on 18 October.

Information Paper: Measuring Net Undercount in the 2006 Population Census, 2007 (cat. no. 2940.0.55.001)
This paper provides information on the methodology used to estimate the net undercount in the 2006 Population Census. Rates of undercount can vary significantly for different population groups depending on factors such as sex, age, ethnicity (including Indigenous status) and geographic location.

Voluntary Work, Australia, 2006 (cat. no. 4441.0)
Released in July, this publication contains information about participation in unpaid voluntary work through an organisation or group. Data are available by selected demographic characteristics including birthplace.

Forms of Employment, Australia, Nov 2006 (cat. no. 6359.0)
Topics covered include contract work, casual employment, leave entitlements, hours worked, industry and occupation. Estimates can be cross-classified by demographic characteristics such as country of birth.

Working Time Arrangements, Australia, Nov 2006 (cat. no. 6342.0)
This publication provides information about paid employees and their working arrangements such as shift work, overtime, rostered days off and start and finish times. Estimates can be cross-classified by demographic characteristics such as country of birth.
A Directory of Education and Training Statistics, 2007 (cat. no. 1136.0)
This directory provides descriptive information on various education and training related data sources, data items available, frequency of collections, publications produced, and access to information. It also has links to statistics on international student enrolments.

Marriages, Australia, 2006 (cat. no. 3306.0.55.001)
This provides information on marriages registered during the 2006 calendar year. Data, in Excel format, indicate the country of birth of the bride and bridegroom, and whether they are from the same or different countries of birth. Other information includes the median duration of residence in Australia, previous marital status, cohabitation prior to marriage, the median age at marriage, and the category of celebrant (i.e. religious or civil).

Divorces, Australia, 2006 (cat. no. 3307.0.55.001)
Released in August, this publication presents information at the national and state level on registered divorces by age, duration of marriage, country of birth and number of children.
