This is the final release of Manufacturing Industry, Australia (cat. no. 8221.0). It presents results from the Manufacturing component of the Economic Activity Survey, showing details of; employment, wages and salaries, sales and service income, and industry value added (IVA) classified by industry class. Also included, at the industry subdivision level, are estimates of these key variables classified by employment size, state and territory, as well as estimates of profitability, industry performance measures, export activity, components of IVA, acquisition and disposal of assets, and selected labour costs. Most estimates include non-employing businesses and use a combination of data from the Manufacturing Survey and business income tax data provided to the Australian Taxation Office.

Clients seeking more recent information relating to manufacturing operations should see Australian Industry (cat. no. 8155.0) which presents estimates derived using a combination of data from the Economic Activity Survey and business tax data sourced from the Australian Tax Office. For most industry divisions and subdivisions (as specified in the Australian and New Zealand Industrial Classification (ANZSIC), 2006 edition), estimates at a national level are presented for: income; expenses; industry value added; operating profit before tax; capital expenditure; and selected components of these aggregates and derivations. State/territory estimates of income, employment, and wages and salaries, at the division level are also included.

Users of ABS industry statistics are encouraged to access the 'Topics @ a Glance' portal which can be found at the top of the ABS website homepage. This new project is replacing the old 'Theme page' facility with more exciting and dynamic pages, however until this work is completed some pages may still display the title 'Themes'.
