Purpose
To measure the value and quarter to quarter movements of new capital expenditure by private businesses in Australia.

Description
This survey collects data on actual and expected new capital expenditure by private businesses in Australia. It is based on a stratified random sample of approximately 7,000 private business units selected from the ABS Register of Businesses.

Data are collected by mail questionnaire sent to private businesses every quarter.

Data are released quarterly.

Historical Data
The survey was first conducted in 1947. Data is available as a continuous series (via the ABS PC Ausstats service) from June 1987.
