To provide information on fatal and serious injury crashes.

FORS data are made up of direct unit records which are obtained from State/Territory road authorities. Supplementary information on fatal crashes comes from coroners' reports.

Data Detail
Crash level:

  • Crash type;
  • Date;
  • Time;
  • Light;
  • Speed;
  • Urban/rural;
  • Weather;
  • Definition for classifying accidents events (fatalities only);
  • Major factors (fatalities only); and
  • Vehicle type (fatalities only).

Vehicle level:
  • Blood alcohol content (BAC) of driver;
  • Date;
  • Time;
  • Licence type;
  • Unit type; and
  • Vehicle details (colour, damage, model etc-fatalities only).

Person level:
  • Age;
  • Day;
  • Time;
  • Extent of injury;
  • Road user;
  • Seat belt;
  • Sex;
  • Abbreviated injury score classifications (fatalities only); and
  • BAC (fatalities only).

Geographic Coverage
Australia, States and Territories, local government areas.

Frequency of Data Availability
Data are available monthly and annually (for fatalities).
Data are available quarterly and annually (for serious injuries).

Historical Data
Data are available from 1988.
