OVERVIEW
This collection covers inventories of Australian produced wine types, unfermented grape juice, brandy and spirit.

PURPOSE
Data is used by the wine industry and industry observers to assess the availability of various wine types and as part of an input/output reconciliation for the industry.

SCOPE
The information on stocks of Australian produced wine is obtained from winemaking enterprises with sales of 250,000 litres or more in the previous financial year.

Conceptual framework
Details on inventories of Australian produced wine by wine type are collected at 30 June from Australian winemakers with wine sales of 250,000 litres or more in the previous financial year. [Same population as the Sales of Australian Wine and Brandy by Winemakers collection for the current financial year]

Other concepts (summary)
For the purposes of this collection, 'Winemakers' are those businesses which ferment wine, ie, take grape juice and turn it into wine. Businesses which blend wine only are considered to be outside the scope of this collection. This collection also includes 'sales balance' items such as exports and wine purchases so that a unit reconciliation can be made. Data from the provider's Wine and Spirit Production form is also used as part of the reconciliation.
