  • unconsolidated assets fell $175.4b (-4.2%) to $3,963.1b.

Managed Funds industry as at 30 June 2022 had $4,296.3b funds under management, comprised of:

Superannuation (pension) funds

Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds fell $154.0b (-4.4%) to $3,322.8b during the June quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts fell $83.5b (-6.6%)
  • shares fell $73.9b (-11.9%)
  • assets overseas fell $28.6b (-4.2%)
  • deposits rose $24.2b (10.1%)
  • other financial assets rose $9.6b (3.9%).

Important data quality note

Data reliability issue - Other Financial Assets

There are known reporting issues with the Other Financial Assets series (A3581378L). The ABS is working with APRA and data providers to resolve the reporting errors as quickly as possible. We expect to make revisions to this series, and others, in coming quarters. 

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts fell $10.3b (-2.1%) to $472.5b during the June quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts fell $6.9b (-6.9%)
  • shares fell $6.4b (-8.9%)
  • assets overseas fell $3.6b (-4.2%)
  • land, buildings and equipment rose $3.4b (2.1%)
  • deposits rose $1.3b (20.1%).

Cross investment within public offer (retail) unit trusts fell $6.8b (-16.2%) to $35.0b.

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations fell $5.5b (-4.4%) to $120.0b during the June quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts fell $2.4b (-5.8%)
  • shares fell $1.1b (-7.6%)
  • assets overseas fell $1.1b (-6.1%)
  • bonds, etc. fell $0.7b (-2.7%)
  • short term securities fell $0.4b (-15.7%).

All other managed funds institutions

Total unconsolidated assets of:

  • friendly societies fell $0.3b (-3.8%) to $8.7b
  • common funds fell $0.6b (-5.1%) to $10.9b
  • cash management trusts fell $4.6b (-14.1%) to $28.1b.
