We are pleased to announce that the key design features of the complete monthly meaure of the CPI are now accessible on the ABS Consultation Hub. The ABS will release a complete monthly CPI in late 2025, as part of its transformative program called Big Data, Timely Insights: Phase 2 (BDTI2).

Stakeholders were invited to provide input on key aspects of the CPI publication design during a public consultation in late 2023. Feedback was sought on key areas such as release timing, data requirements, publication specifics, and methodologies.

Coming up

As we continue to refine the complete monthly measure of the CPI we will share regular updates on the design journey. This will include milestones reached, next steps, and enhancements made to our methodology and design components. 

Graphic describes that in mid 2024 information on the new administrative data sources and web-scraped data methods will be released. The complete monthly CPI release reschedule, along with information on the seasonally adjusted and new analytical series, treatment of historical data, and CPI publication mock-up will be available mid 2025.
