Thank you for shedding some light on Census night

11 August 2011 | VIC/35

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) thanks Victorians for shedding some light and participating in this year's Census of Population and Housing.

Victoria Census Director Sam Thomas says it’s not too late for people to submit their forms and is encouraging everyone who is yet to complete a Census to do so online using eCensus.

"If you haven’t completed a form, just jump online at www.census.gov.au and complete it as if it were Tuesday, 9 August,” Mr Thomas says.

Mr Thomas also reminds people to hit the submit button once they have completed eCensus.

"Currently there are fewer than 80,000 completed eCensus forms nationally that have been completed, but not submitted,” Mr Thomas says.

"If you have completed your eCensus form but did not receive a receipt number you need to log back on and press the submit button.”

At its peak more than 100 eCensus forms were submitted per second on Census night.

Mr Thomas says Census Collectors will be returning to households to collect completed paper forms between now and 28 August, so please have your form ready.

“All genuine ABS Census Collectors will be wearing visible photo identification and carrying highly visible yellow satchels when they collect completed Census forms,” Mr Thomas says.

“If you haven’t received a Census form or need an eCensus Number you can request one online at www.abs.gov.au/census”

The first results of the Census will be released in June 2012.
