Record 70 Census Collector jobs available in the Southern Tablelands

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking for a record 70 Census Collectors in the Southern Highlands to help conduct the Census on 9 August 2011.

These Collectors will join an army of 8,200 in NSW who will pound the pavement to deliver and collect more than four million Census forms to NSW's 3.1 million households.

Kate Howarth, an ABS staff member and Office Manager of a campsite at Wee Jasper, is a newly appointed Area Supervisor in the region who is looking for quality local Collectors to help get the job done.

"Collectors are the backbone of the Census so it's important that we find the best local people," Kate says.

"In the Southern Highlands we really need Collectors who are familiar with the bush, know where to find people and are not afraid to knock on a door and have a chat."

Kate understands that the rewarding, yet challenging nature of the local terrain and is after resourceful Census Collectors.

"There are creeks to cross, holiday parks to count and long dirt roads that are only accessible by four wheel drives," Kate adds.

"Some remote areas where Collectors will need to venture are home to brumbies, wild deer and more!"

Census Collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September 2011.
