Yes. The information in this survey is collected under the authority of the Census and Statistics Act 1905. The Act obliges you to provide the information requested. Under the Act, staff of the ABS are obliged to maintain the confidentiality and privacy of information provided. Breaching this requirement can result in heavy penalties, including fines and imprisonment.

Does this business have to complete the whole survey?

Yes, if your business has undertaken exploration activities or care and maintenance during the quarter, please complete the whole survey. If you are the managing operator of an unincorporated Joint Venture (UJV), please complete the form on behalf of the whole UJV.

Do we have to provide figures for this survey right now?

Yes. The industry, business and government users of Mineral and Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation statistics need the most accurate and timely information possible so they can make informed decisions.

How do we answer this survey?

Each quarter, the ABS sends correspondence with a code to access the latest quarter’s survey form. Simply go online to the ABS Survey Account to set up an account or if you already have one, log in and add your Form Access Code to retrieve the form. You will only need to add a Form Access Code once. For future cycles, the Mineral and Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation form will automatically be added to your account. The account is a secure service that allows a form to be accessed as many times as is needed before final submission. The same account can be used to access and answer future surveys.
