  • About this Release

Examines associations between the physical health, mental health and educational performance of a random sample of 4-16 year-old students attending primary and secondary schools throughout WA. School cultures and environments are described. The influence of school staffing, size, amenities and location as well as the contribution of family structure and functioning on child academic performance and well-being are examined. Consequences of poor physical and mental health for educational outcomes are described together with the protective function which schools serve for children at increased risk for poor health and educational attainment.
